Program Description

This Welding Program is designed to teach the Student at their individual level.  If the Student is proficient, he/she will advance faster and will require less classroom hours.  The Student will remain in the welding position until he/she advances to the next position by passing a bend test in each position.

The Student is required to provide their own, welding helmet, welding cap, welding gloves and working gloves, leathers, safety glasses and steel toe boots.

Welding Safety & Welding Enviornment

  • Shop Safety
  • The use of oxygen and acetylene cylinders and the proper settings
  • The dangers of high pressure settings and the potential of explosion
  • The use of track and hand torches
  • The use of a cutting saw
  • The use of a band saw both portable and stationary
  • The dangers of confined spaces
  • The intake of the plume created from welding

Weld Positions per ASME BPVC.IX-2015

Plate (Basic)

Flat Position 1F – Plates so placed that the weld is deposited with its axis horizontal and its throat vertical.

Horizontal
Position 2F – Plates so placed that the weld is deposited with its axis horizontal on the upper side of the horizontal surface and against the vertical surface.

Vertical Position 3F – Plates so placed that the weld is deposited with its axis vertical.

Overhead Position 4F – Plates so placed that the weld is deposited with its axis horizontal on the underside of the horizontal surface and against the vertical surface.

Plate (Advance)
Flat Position 1G – Plate in a horizontal plane with the weld metal deposited from above (with or without backing bar).

Horizontal Position 2G – Plate in a vertical plane with the axis of weld horizontal (with or without backing bar).

Vertical Position 3G – Plate in a vertical plane with the axis of weld vertical (with or without backing bar).

Overhead Position 4G – Plate in a horizontal plane with the weld metal deposited from underneath (with or without backing bar).

Pipe (Advance Weld)
Horizontal Position 2G – Pipe with its axis vertical and the axis of the weld in a horizontal plane.  Pipe shall not be rotated during welding.

Multiple Position - Pipe with its axis horizontal and with the welding grove in a vertical plane.  Pipe shall not be rotated during welding.

Multiple Position 6G - Pipe with its inclination at 45 degrees to horizontal.  Pipe shall not be rotated during welding.
